Case: Helsinki City Transport Dispatching Application OHJA
The dispatching application OHJA which was created for the use of Helsinki City Transport is used for managing the speech and data communication between the fleet, personnel and dispatching points. The system is based on local TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) network, which is operated by Helsinki Energy, and on Nokia Tetra System rel 3.0 TCS-API network interface.
Speech and data communication
 The dispatching application OHJA is used to operate and control the data communication between about 140 trams and 460 buses that provide the local transportation in Helsinki. In addition to the management of different types of individual, group and emergency calls, short and status messages
OHJA application enables the conveying of so-called diagnostic messages and, in the future, the wider use of telemetry.
Dynamic updating of the groups
OHJA application uses information on the timetable and maintenance databases of Helsinki City Transport. The content of groups is automatically updated according to the shift schedules. Responsibilities according to the dispatching points are transferred.
Integrated positioning application
 GPS positioning of the TETRA devices of the trams and buses is used for example to locate emergency phone calls.
Passenger announcements
The recording application of OHJA enables the recording and timing of possible announcements. The announcements are played automatically in selected passenger vehicles. The announcements and driver’s tangent are managed with OHJA.
